Mommy's family

Please excuse the non-cat posting but I want to occasionally share my life as well as what is going on with the felines in the house.

On Christmas Day, I spent a good part of the day with my human family. We had a family picture taken sitting on the stairs at my brother's home.
Here is my family...I'm the one in the front, next to my dad. I'm the oldest of the five of us kids.
Not a bad looking group, hmm?

Merry Christmas!!

Well, it's been a month since mommy posted for us last and she has been properly chastised but it's Christmas and a time to forgive and love on another, so we are doing just that.

We refused to have any funny Christmas-type pictures of us taken but we do have a new Runt picture to show everyone and it is Christmas related. Mommy was making cookies earlier this week and had opened one of the cupboard doors to get some of her spices out. She, then, went to the fridge to get the butter and when she turned around, this is what she saw:

Yes, that is the Runtzki on the top shelf of the cabinet. Mom didn't even hear him jump on the cabinet or up onto the shelf.
So, from our house to all of yours, a Very Merry Christmas and wishes for a wonderful New Year!

Thanksgiving thoughts

Well, kats and kittens, it's Thanksgiving Day here in Illinois and we thought we would reflect on what we are grateful for.
Taz: Good food, lots of love from a mommy who understands me enough to know that just because I don't cuddle with my brothers, doesn't mean I don't love  them...It just means I'm the Princess and I don't mix with the riff-raff!
Runt: The food is great, and mommy gives good snuggles in the morning as she gets my food together. And I love to sit on mommy's lap when she's at the computer (if Charles doesn't beat me to it!) and just enjoy the quiet of the two of us.
Charles: Hey, did someone say food?  Mommy calls me her big boy and I am that...I love sleeping with mommy, even though she doesn't sleep as long as I want her to, but she doesn't mind if I curl back up after breakfast. Food, did someone mention food?
Mommy: While I am thankful for the three of you, I am most grateful this year that my nephew, Erik, has completed his tour in Iraq, where he was an EOD specialist (Explosive Ordinance Detonation) and that his next assignment will be Oahu, Hawaii. Evidently, the unexploded ordinance from WWII is becoming unstable, so they are requesting EOD to begin safely disarming them.
So, from all of us at 3 Kats and a Kwilter want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! Now, we need to get back to our nap!

Santa Paws Drive---Please help out!

Today's blog entry is from Taz, aka Princess. As a former shelter inhabitant, she knows the sorrow of finding yourself in a cage at a shelter. Taz found her new forever home on Christmas Eve 3 years ago and while it took some time for her to get accustomed to her new mommy, she is very happy now in her forever home.
Santa Paws Drive
While we like to find forever homes for all shelter animals, we understand that it won't happen this year, so we are supporting the Santa Paws Drive, which will be helping 6 shelters - 3 in the United States, 1 in Canada, 1 in Great Britain and 1 in Tenerife, which is off the coast of Africa, to give the animals a little Christmas cheer and help the shelters out with some added cash to make things a little smoother. So, consider making a donation, whether as a cash donation or a donation of "goodies".
So, thanks for reading and keep checking back. We are pestering mommy to post more often.
Snuggles,

A Runt Update

We mentioned in the last posting that Runt has been having some health issues. Well, he went to the vet and is currently on antibiotics for an infection in the mouth/upper lip area. There is already a noticable improvement in the area. Runt never let this stop him from eating, so this is all good.

The vet did say that keeping him on non-gluten food is helping heal the area of his tummy where he licked it bare because of his gluten intolerance. So, we are making good progress and mommy hopes to have pictures soon of the tummy fur coming in (Runt is a little shy yet about letting mommy take tummy pictures).

Finally! We're blogging...

Well, we've finally done it! Convinced mommy to create a blog for us! Of course, she has insisted on the fact that she get to post quilty stuff from time to time, in exchange for being our voice on the internet...Seems fair.
So, 3 Kats and a Kwilter? The 3 cats are Taz (aka "the Princess"), Runt, and Charles (aka wide load, Big Boy or Charlie) and mommy is the quilter, although she says she's more of a piecer than a quilter but we like what she makes, so that's all right.
We are not mommy's first fur-kids. Mommy has been mommy to many fur-kids through the years, Tiger, Punkin Spice, Tramp and Scamp, and Thomas. Mommy lost Scamp and Thomas within  6 weeks of each other, which made her very sad.

Taz came to live with mommy at Christmas time 4 years ago, after she lost Tramp. She is a shelter rescue, where she ended up when her first mommy died and the daughter couldn't take her home with her. Taz was scared of all the new noises and cats, so was not a well behaved young lady. Matter of fact, the shelter gave her to mommy because she was not  being very sociable (actually, she attacked anyone that tried to pet her). The shelter people had to use leather gloves to get her in the carrier! She still is a little skittish but will let mommy snuggle her for short periods of time and cuddles well then.

Runt and Charles are a set in that they belonged to mommy's nephew first. The "boys" as mommy calls them had to find a new home when the nephew had to move and couldn't take them with. Mommy got a phone call while on vacation asking her if she would give them a home and she said "yes". Runt is a grey stripe and white cat. Runt is dealing with some problems right now but we hope they will be cleared up soon. Charles is a wide bodied tuxedo cat with paws the size of silver dollars and he's the lover of the bunch. When Charles lays on you, you know it!

So, this might be interesting as she learns as she goes along. If you have suggestions or words of wisdom on how to do this better, please share it with her. We want this to be the best one mommy can do.

Thanks for checking us out!
